Stakeholder management – it’s all about the people

We all need to deal with people who have a stake in their work, outputs, and service. We all need to be able to cope with groups that have competing interests and levels of attention. Staff need to be able to deal with multiple stakeholders who have different interests and levels of engagement. This is especially true for programme managers and technical experts who are dealing with internal and external stakeholders.

The overall aims of the course

The aim of this course is for trainees to improve their management abilities when dealing with multiple stakeholders with different levels of engagement. We will provide insights into the various methods that staff can use to analyse and map their stakeholders so that they can make the correct assumptions for engagement.

This training is equally applicable to staff who deliver services as well as those policy and programme managers who are seeking to influence and persuade certain stakeholder groups.

Course content
  • Stakeholder management – definition.
  • Stakeholder mapping – how to segment stakeholder interests.
  • High and low influence versus high and low involvement.
  • How to find out the levels of influence and interest.
  • How to manage different stakeholders – action plans.
Course format – what’s going to happen

The training includes a trainer led briefing and discussion in plenary of the principles of stakeholder management. Participants will practise segmenting stakeholder interests and learn about their levels of influence versus involvement. The trainer will deliver effective feedback by providing action plans to participants to manage different stakeholders appropriately.

Format – In-person and online

In-person: We bring people together in groups at your office or training centre in line with social distancing rules.
Webinars and online coaching: We run webinars for groups and online follow up coaching for individuals.
Online learning: We provide learners with online reading materials, tasks and cheat sheets.

Follow up training

We can tailor a programme to include Presentation Skills or Media Training. Our clients often ask for follow up training in Advanced Writing skills so that staff are well practised in developing both spoken and written messages.
