Advanced Writing Skills

Welcome to the e-resources for effective writing

Learn the principles of writing skills that help you to draft precise, concise reports, emails and articles. Writing is difficult to master but there are some principles you can learn to help keep your writing neat and precise.

One of the skills of a good writer is to be able to report issues clearly, concisely, and in a way that grabs the reader’s attention right from the start. It’s a skill that carries real benefits in the workplace. We need to write documents that are attention-grabbing and succinct. We also need to ensure that we have all the important information clearly summarised right at the beginning. These key writing skills encourage us to focus on what’s important so that the reader does not get stuck in over-long communications.

As with any communication including writing skills, you want your messages to be received and understood. This means front loading your texts so that the reader immediately get the points you are making. Also, your communications will stand out from ponderous and wordy ones! S a reader is more likely to pick your reports out of the pile on her desk in future.

We strongly believe that writing skills are an essential area of development for staff. Is your company a learning organisation? Read our article on learning and development http://www.communication-director.com/issues/are-you-learning-organisation/#.VTZUJtKqqko
