Feedback – Build a culture of talking

Feedback is crucial for management, collaboration, and motivation. How we plan and deliver feedback and how often are key important to workplace relationships, team motivation, and professional development for all staff.

This training aims to help line managers to structure effective feedback whether ad hoc is part of the formal mid-term and end-of-year appraisal. 

The overall aims of the course

Managers will learn the importance of creating a safe and open environment for staff to receive feedback. Staff will be prepared to have constructive conversations with their managers to improve performance in the workplace.  Both managers and staff should leave the course feeling prepared to discuss difficult topics and more confident in their ability to give and receive feedback.

Course content
  • Aims of feedback – development, steering, dealing with difficulties, rewarding
  • Principles – 80/20 conversation, using questions, clear messages
  • The feedback conversation through questions: open, drilling for detail, final conclusions
  • Giving negative – the performance, the agreed plan
  • How to give efficient and positive appraisals
  • How to be an active listener when receiving an appraisal
Course format – what’s going to happen

The training includes a trainer led briefing and discussion in plenary of the principles and practices of giving feedback. Participants will practise planning and giving feedback in small groups and practice constructive conversations. The trainer will take notes on the small group work and provide advice and recommendations.

Format – In-person and online

In-person: We bring people together in groups at your office or training centre in line with social distancing rules.
Webinars and online coaching: We run webinars for groups and online follow up coaching for individuals.
Online learning: We provide learners with online reading materials, tasks and cheat sheets.

Follow up training

We can tailor a programme to include Presentation Skills or Media Training. Our clients often ask for follow up training in Advanced Writing skills so that staff are well practised in developing both spoken and written messages.
